Pablo Hernandez has reacted, among others, to Luke Ayling’s confirmation of his departure from Leeds United this evening as he completes a loan transfer to Middlesbrough until the end of the season.
After seven and a half years at Elland Road, the 32-year-old has made the decision to leave the team, as the right-back has struggled to get playing time under Daniel Farke. He hasn’t participated in any of our last 11 Championship games.
After playing in our most recent match, a 3-0 FA Cup victory over Peterborough on Sunday, he waved goodbye to the supporters. He departs as a contemporary Leeds legend and with iconic status after playing in almost 300 games for the club.
He thanked the supporters and the team on Instagram, tagging a few acquaintances along the way, including as Marcelo Bielsa, Stuart Dallas, and Liam Cooper, the latter of whom had messaged him on Twitter.

As Luke Ayling departs Leeds United, Pablo Hernandez responds.
Although Ayling states at the beginning of his statement that “you can never predict the future,” it seems likely that he will go permanently after the conclusion of the campaign. His contract ends in the summer.
According to Phil Hay, it seems unlikely that Ayling’s contract, along with that of Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas, will be extended when it expires in the summer. As Ayling leaves, it appears more and more likely.
Ayling makes a wise decision by moving to Boro, where he will play with a team that is also vying for a promotion until the conclusion of the season. He won’t be allowed to play when the teams play on April 20 in Leeds because of a loan.

Several celebrities, including Leeds magician Hernandez and Robin Koch, Rodrigo Moreno, and Pascal Struijk, responded to his Instagram post. The man Ayling costarred with during the 2019–20 season of promotion.
