James Maddison, a midfielder for Tottenham Hotspur, has sent his best wishes to Eric Dier following the defender’s successful loan departure from Spurs.

Tottenham had a busy day in terms of transfers on Thursday. Radu Dragusin joined Spurs in N17, while Dier and Djed Spence went out on loan.

Dier agreed to go on loan to Bayern Munich for the end of the current campaign, with an additional year’s worth of options to extend the deal (BBC Sport).

Depending on performance, Bayern will have to pay a price ranging from €2 million to €4 million to finalize the transaction, as reported by ESPN.

Dier’s 29-year-old Tottenham contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, so it’s likely that this is his final game with the team.

After Tottenham announced Dier’s exit, Maddison posted a message for his fellow Three Lions star on Instagram stories.

“Best of luck, brother! Fantastic human & player,” the 27-year-old wrote. “Will be sadly missed.”

Dier has only made four Premier League appearances this season due to his lack of playing time under Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou.

This is true even though Spurs are dealing with a back-court personnel dilemma. And Dier would have fallen more in the hierarchy with Dragusin now through the door.

It’s a sensible decision for all involved, but it’s still disappointing to lose a player who gave Tottenham his all for the majority of his career and was a member of one of their best teams in recent memory.

When they frequently battled for the Premier League title in the 2010s and advanced to the Champions League final in 2019, Dier was a key member of the team under Mauricio Pochettino.

The 29-year-old has 364 competitive appearances for the Lilywhites since joining Spurs from Sporting Lisbon in 2014 for an alleged £4 million.
