We are excited to have former Scotland right-back Alan Hutton join us as an exclusive columnist. Every week, he will share his thoughts on the most talked-about topics at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Although Alan Hutton has advised Tottenham Hotspur not to rush the Dutchman back into action, he thinks that Micky van de Ven’s comeback might be great news for the team this season.

For Spurs’ FA Cup third-round match against Burnley, the 22-year-old made his matchday squad comeback after missing time due to a hamstring injury he suffered during the team’s wild 4-1 loss to Chelsea in November.

Van van Ven did not play in Tottenham’s 1-0 victory, but some have speculated that after an extra week of conditioning, he would be ready to start Sunday’s Premier League match against Manchester United.

tottenham Postecoglou is short of options at the heart of the defence with Eric Dier completing his transfer to Bayern Munich, but Hutton has encouraged the Spurs boss to remain careful suggesting it would be wise to not throw him into the deep end at Old Trafford.

“It’s huge, I thought he was outstanding,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

Romero and he had a great game together, and I can see why they aren’t just tossing him back in because you don’t want to take a chance when someone has a hamstring issue and has to run at full speed.

“Obviously, he’s completed the strength training, the training, and everything, so there’s no reason to just chuck him.

“They’ll most likely just look at his minutes and see how he progresses week by week to get him back fully healthy and ready to play in the second half of the season.”

This season, Van van Ven has made 11 appearances for Tottenham in the Premier League, recording four clean sheets and even scoring one goal. His superb form at the heart of Spurs’ defenders played a significant factor in their excellent start to the season [Fotmob].

Spurs will undoubtedly benefit greatly from being able to use the “outstanding” defender once more, even though it is unclear if Postecoglou will choose to start the Dutchman against Erik ten Hag’s team on Sunday.
