As the month draws to a conclusion, clubs will have just over two weeks left before the January transfer window closes, at which point they will begin to make moves. Newcastle United has stated that they will take financial stability into account before making any business decisions, and that they may leave the team before any long-term agreements are reached at all.

Ederson Dos Santos Da Silva, a.k.a. Ederson, the midfielder for Atalanta, is one name that is frequently associated with Newcastle. Leading Italian media state that Newcastle and Juventus are leading the chase for a player whom Atalanta is unwilling to let go of—at least not until the summer.

But according to the sources, an offer of about £30 million this month would persuade the Italian team to part with one of their most valuable assets. For Newcastle, who won’t have Sandro Tonali until the following season, Ederson is viewed as the perfect addition.

He is a good deep-lying defensive midfield player who really comes alive when given the chance to drive the ball forward. He is beginning to build the kind of reputation that will probably make a lot of major clubs want to sign him in the summer. Newcastle has also been connected to a loan deal for Kalvin Phillips of Manchester City, but any agreement to a deal has so far proven to be hampered by the costs associated with the transfer.

In other news, Newcastle was advised to move quickly to recruit Swedish rising sensation Lucas Bergvall, with whom they were linked this past week. Many foreign scouts watched the 17-year-old, who can play on the wing or as a number 10, make his Swedish A team debut this week. Barcelona and Inter Milan were reportedly rumored to be interested in the player.
