Brennan Johnson of Tottenham Hotspur was criticized by Gary Neville for squandering a good opportunity against Manchester United today.

Rasmus Hojlund gave United a quick start at Old Trafford with a goal in the first three minutes.

Within fifteen minutes, Richarlison gave Tottenham a response with a perfectly placed header off a Pedro Porro corner.

Once things were even, Ange Postecoglou’s team started to dominate and generated some good openings.

In fact, Spurs executed a masterful defensive strategy before Porro found Johnson down the right side.

The middle player, Richarlison, had gotten ahead of his defender, Jonny Evans, so the Welshman had him to aim at.

When Johnson overextended himself with his cross, it went over the Brazilian’s head, leaving Sky Sports commentator Gary Neville “disappointed.”

Neville is not fond of Johnson.

While co-commentating on today’s game, Neville expressed his displeasure at Johnson for giving Spurs away a “really good” opportunity.

“Brendan Johnson has let me down so much,” he exclaimed. “That’s a great opportunity to incorporate that into Richarlison.”

Johnson, who spent £45 million to join Spurs from Nottingham Forest this summer, has had a reasonably successful start to his career. However, the 22-year-old does occasionally struggle with conviction in the last third.

For much of the first half, Spurs remained in control, although they constantly appeared vulnerable on the counterattack.

Marcus Rashford’s outstanding finish against the flow of play in the 40th minute proved to be a blow to Postecoglou’s team.

On his debut, Timo Werner had a good chance to open his Spurs account, but he missed the far post with his shot.

Rodrigo Bentancur and Werner combined to smash the ball past Onana in the second half, rewarding Spurs for their dominance.

Even though they were superior for the larger part of the ninety minutes, Postecoglou’s team was unable to secure a victory on the day.
