“Excellent”: Ange Postecoglou is astounded by a Tottenham player in training, who has only made one start so far this season.
Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham Hotspur, has provided insight into Emerson Royal’s latest training regimen.
Spurs’ season is going great so far. In comparison to previous year, they appear entirely different, and the club’s ambiance is fantastic. According to Postecoglou, the reason Tottenham’s current team has such high standards is because of guys like Emerson.

Tottenham signed Emerson Royal from Barcelona back in 2021, and according to Ange Postecoglou, the player has excelled in training.
When the Brazilian entered, there was a lot of excitement surrounding him. During his time at Real Betis, he had an incredible La Liga campaign, and many predicted he would become a star at Spurs.
But Emerson had two incredibly challenging seasons at Tottenham. Sure, he shown moments of brilliance, but he was inconsistent and prone to error.
Under Ange Postecoglou, Pedro Porro has been Spurs’ first-choice right-back this season. This year, Emerson has only made one start, which occurred during the FA Cup victory over Burnley.
According to Postecoglou, Emerson has been the total opposite at training—a player who is no longer a regular starter would easily wallow in the background.
According to Football London, the Australian stated: “You’d believe Emerson Royal plays every game if you watched him train every day. I see it every day, others don’t.
“His disposition and attitude are simply amazing everywhere he goes. Nobody has time to be depressed right now. When you see a guy like Emerson—and we have a few in that situation this year, like Fraser [Forster] or Ben [Davies]—who trains so hard every day and always has the best attitude, it leaves no room for anyone else to say they’re not up to the task.
These are the kinds of things that have an impact on both your leaders and your dressing room. You see these folks, your leaders and others, who merely uplift you when you’re having a hard time or are struggling with a few issues.
Postecoglou has seen improvements at Emerson.
Following a challenging couple of years, many people called for Tottenham to sell Emerson.
Last season, Jamie O’Hara even went so far as to refer to him as a “liability” and that he would “give you £5 million to get rid” of Emerson.
But ever since Ange Postecoglou arrived, Emerson has had a significantly improved appearance. Spurs turned down a Saudi Arabian approach to sell him last month since he has been doing exceptionally well in recent weeks.
Even if Emerson doesn’t always start for Tottenham, his recent performance both on and off the field is fantastic for Spurs supporters.
