Leeds United’s opening two goals in their FA Cup loss to Chelsea came from Mateo Joseph yesterday night.

For the Stamford Bridge encounter, Daniel Farke made several changes to his starting lineup for Leeds, but Conor Gallagher’s goal in the ninetieth minute was the only one that kept the two teams apart.

Joseph was starting for Leeds for the second time this season and for just the third time in his professional career when he made a major statement by scoring an outstanding double.

He gave Leeds the lead with a powerful strike inside the first ten minutes following a blunder in Chelsea’s defense. An hour later, he headed home an equalizer from Jaidon Anthony’s cross.

Joseph will always remember this night, even if they lost, and he shared his thoughts about the match on Instagram earlier today.

Among those congratulating Joseph were Rutter and Chukwuemeka. Joseph wrote: “I’m proud of the team’s effort and hard work.” With heads held high, we respectfully withdraw from this competition. A memorable evening that I will never forget.

Despite being sidelined due to injury for Leeds last night, Georginio Rutter was obviously thrilled with what he saw from his fellow youthful offensive teammate.

Twenty million pounds Being a teammate of Rutter’s with the England U20s, Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka was one of several players to congratulate him despite both of them missing games due to injuries.

It is evident how hard he will have worked on the training field for those moments last night given the number of Leeds players who have come to comment on his post.

Though he may have been unlucky not to have featured more in the Championship, Joseph is highly regarded behind the scenes at Leeds and has made his case now.

Hopefully, Daniel Farke has seen what he can provide to the squad and will give him a few chances in the promotion run-in throughout the remaining games of the season.
