Nicolo Zaniolo, an Italy international, was strongly linked to West Ham last year.

Following a rift with the team’s supporters, the gifted playmaker was let go from Roma.

As reported at the time by Corriere dello Sport, West Ham made an odd long-term loan offer that included a purchase obligation from Roma.

Zaniolo ultimately signed with Turkish team Galatasaray. However, a few months later, he was in motion as West Ham and Aston Villa fought for his transfer to the Premier League.

Instead, the West Ham target joined Villa, and that race was won by Villa. However, Zaniolo has had difficulty making a name for himself in Unai Emery’s elite Villans team.

Ironically, or more accurately, usually in West Ham’s case, Zaniolo scored the equalizer in their most recent 1-1 draw at the London Stadium.

With all the uncertainty surrounding Lucas Paqueta’s future, the Hammers may need to add a new creative midfielder in the upcoming transfer window.

As Zaniolo searches for his next transfer, the star who has been linked to West Ham has now announced that he will leave Aston Villa this summer.

Zaniolo said he is considering his next course of action.

The 24-year-old is on loan from Gala to Villa through the end of the current campaign. However, it seems that Villa has no desire to pursue the possibility of relocating permanently.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport in Italy, Zaniolo has essentially stated that he is seeking a new club and does not wish to rejoin Galatasaray.

“I’m concentrating on Aston Villa; Galatasaray will determine my fate,” Zaniolo declared.

Of course, I miss Italy. However, my representative will let me know if there are any specific offers.

Paqueta for Hammers will be downgraded for everyone. However, the clubs will now choose my future because Galatasaray owns the card.

“In the interim, let me express my gratitude to [Monchi, president of football operations at Aston Villa] for continuing to place a wager on me following my 19-year-old admission to Roma.”

Zaniolo is a gifted and promising young man. Furthermore, he should still be in his prime years at 24.

He would appear to be a significant step below Paqueta for West Ham. However, whoever the Hammers sign may have to face that fact of life.

Perhaps West Ham should look again at Zaniolo if a deal can be reached with Gala at a reduced cost.
