Despite not having made his senior debut yet, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has summoned up a teenage player to first-team training this week. The player has a stellar reputation.

Postecoglou’s academy strategy and his lofty Tottenham target

Over the past ten years, the N17 production line has produced some outstanding players, such as all-time Spurs and England top scorer Harry Kane.

Both Daniel Levy and Ange Postecoglou.

Much more recently, Jamie Donley and Aflie Dorrington have garnered attention; Postecoglou gave the latter his senior debut and several first team matches during 2023–2024.

The Tottenham head coach, nevertheless, feels that there is still much work to be done in the academy system and isn’t quite happy with it as it stands.

Regarding Tottenham’s academy, Postecoglou remarked, “I think we’ve got a lot of work to do and Simon Davies is certainly one that is putting a lot of emphasis and priority there.”

“We definitely don’t have the production line that other elite teams do. We are currently investing in some younger players, even for the starting squad, for this reason. That is unquestionably the best course of action for our football team.

“At the moment, my focus is still primarily on the first team and developing a first team, which can be accomplished while providing young players with opportunity. If anything, I believe that’s the best approach for long-term success because, if you have positive experiences with them, the team develops together when it consists of individuals of similar ages.”

Tottenham has also focused on bringing in young players from other countries. Most recently, they were able to sign promising Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall, who decided to join Postecoglou’s team in January rather than La Liga powerhouse Barcelona.

Postecoglou has guaranteed Bergvall a spot in the starting lineup provided he performs well on the back end. When the 18-year-old returns from his half-season loan at Djurgardens IF in the summer, he will completely integrate into the Spurs team.

Nearer to home, 16-year-old forward Mikey Moore is another rising star in his adolescence who is building quite the reputation.

The Englishman was featured in The Guardian’s yearly famous “Next Generation” column in 2023 after scoring an incredible 16 goals and dishing out nine assists in 14 games for Tottenham’s Under-18s across all competitions.

Journalist Dave Hytner claims that Moore is a player who slides past opponents with ease, and Postecoglou has taken note of this.

Mikey Moore is called by Postecoglou to the Spurs first team’s practice.

John Wenham, whose Lilywhite Rose social media outlets he frequently uses to reveal academy news, claims that Postecoglou summoned Moore to Tottenham’s first team practice this week.

He is clearly one to monitor based on his statistics and the positive feedback he has received from sources outside of Spurs. It wouldn’t be shocking in the slightest if Postecoglou gives him his first-team debut on the field soon.
