Ahead of the 2024–25 season, Jamie Carragher has demanded that the Carabao Cup take into consideration changing a number of important rules.

Jamie Carragher has demanded a reorganisation of the Carabao Cup lineup for the competition’s semi-finals.

The current regulations mandate that the semifinals be played over two legs, but the former Liverpool player thinks that a single encounter should determine the winners instead.

Tuesday night, Chelsea secured their place in the competition’s final four after defeating Newcastle on penalties in a thrilling match. The Blues never seemed to be able to get back into the tie after Callum Wilson gave the visitors the lead early in the first half.

That is, until Mykhaylo Mudryk pounced and forced a penalty kick in the 92nd minute due to a mistake made by the fullback when passing the ball to Martin Dubravka.

After Trippier missed his spot kick and Matt Ritchie’s attempt to send the Magpies packing was also saved, further anguish was inflicted upon him.

In the semi-finals, Chelsea may play either Middlesbrough, Liverpool/West Ham, or Fulham, which is scheduled for this Wednesday night. The following round will be played over two legs, with home advantage available to each club.
