In the January transfer window, Newcastle United is seeking to add a custodian, and they have selected Michele Di Gregorio of AC Monza.

The Premier League team is interested in acquiring a new custodian this month to replace the injured Nick Pope, and they have their sights set on Michele Di Gregorio, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport via Area Napoli.

In order to address their injury crisis and replace the players who are now out of commission, the Magpies plan to enter the transfer market.

Since the team has lost its last two games against Nottingham Forest and Luton Town, manager Eddie Howe is under intense pressure.

Newcastle’s hopes of making it into the Champions League the next season have been hindered by injuries and Sandro Tonali’s lengthy ban for his role in illegal batting.

Their season will depend on the choices they make during this month’s transfer window; they are currently in ninth place in the Premier League.

Nick Pope hasn’t been able to play since the start of the previous month because of a shoulder ailment. The Magpies need assistance in goal because the 31-year-old has been sidelined for an extended period of time due to an injury, and they have shown interest in players like David de Gea and Aaron Ramsdale.

That is why they are concentrating on Michele Di Gregorio. With 17 appearances for the Italian team this season, the 26-year-old custodian has been in excellent form, giving up just 17 goals while keeping six clean sheets.

Even with Loris Karius and Martin Dubravka in its lineup, Newcastle is searching the transfer market for stronger alternatives. Numerous European clubs are interested in Di Gregorio due to his outstanding performances since leaving Inter Milan in 2020.

Even if the Magpies are keen to sign the 26-year-old custodian, Monza are unwilling to let him go.
