James Maddison may be able to make a comeback to action by the end of this month, according to The Athletic.

Since Maddison’s ankle injury sidelined him at the beginning of November, players such as Dejan Kulusevski and Giovani Lo Celso have shown remarkable resilience to fill the creative hole left by Maddison’s absence.

Ange Postecoglou, though, would prefer to see the England international return as soon as possible because of the unique qualities he brings to the Spurs team.

Maddison might rejoin Tottenham in a few weeks.

The Athletic have now revealed Maddison’s anticipated comeback date in addition to talking about who would wear the captain’s armband following Son Heung-min’s Asian Cup departure.

According to the article, there is optimism at Hotspur Way that Maddison and Cristian Romero, the club’s vice captains, will return to action before the end of January.

As the Welshman wore the armband in the Carabao Cup match against Fulham back in August, the site notes that Ben Davies is the clear pick for captain in the meantime.

Nonetheless, the article speculates that Guglielmo Vicario would be a remote candidate for the captaincy because the goalie is a sure starter and has demonstrated his leadership abilities since joining the team.
