Despite Nico Williams’ recent signing of a new contract with Athletic Bilbao, the La Liga team is still interested in signing him, according to Tottenham News.
Williams has been very productive this season, making 16 league games while dishing out eight assists and three goals.
The 21-year-old has made two appearances in the Copa Del Rey, scoring once and dishing out two assists. He has also played 15 times as a left winger and once on the right.
The Spain international, who has made 103 appearances for the main team, scoring 16 goals and dishing out 17 assists overall, came through Athletic’s junior divisions after joining the team from CA Osasuna in 2013. He has two goals in 11 caps.
According to the official website of the Spanish club on December 1st, the quick wide player just signed a new contract that would keep him with the team until 2027.
However, a person with strong ties to Tottenham has informed Tottenham News that the North London team is still keen in making a deal for the wonderkid and is not deterred by this development.
Williams has been dubbed “electric” by Tottenham News, and he might pose a serious threat to Spurs on the left with Brennan Johnson providing his own pace on the right.
Ange Postecoglou is eager to keep expanding his roster at Hotspur Way.
With plenty of speed of his own and the ability to play in all three forward positions, Tottenham just announced the signing of RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner (Tottenham Hotspur Official Website, 9 January) on a six-month loan agreement.
In Postecoglou’s attack-oriented style, wingers play a key role. For the Australian, speed is an especially valuable attribute in wide areas.
