January 17, LONDON Today, Championship team Bristol City defeated West Ham 1-0 in the FA Cup, setting up an exciting fourth-round matchup between Newport County and Manchester United.

In less than three minutes, Tommy Conway scored the lone goal at Ashton Gate, ensuring that the Hammers’ 44-year FA Cup drought would not end.

Following a brief back ball from Konstantinos Mavropanos, Conway, who also scored to force a replay when the teams played at the London Stadium, pounced to round Lukasz Fabianski and slot into an open net.

Conway remarked, “I’ve been coming here since I was seven, so to get the winner is unbelievable.”

“To send them home happy is unbelievable, and this is the best crowd I’ve seen in a long time.”

Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta, and Mohammed Kudus—who is currently overseas representing Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations—were threats that David Moyes’ team failed to recognise.

Sent off for kicking out at Joe Williams in response to a late challenge, Said Benrahma left the pitch and the visitors had to play nearly the whole second half with one man down.

Tomas Soucek nearly sent the match into overtime with a volley that prompted Max O’Leary to make a diving save.

In round four, Bristol City will play either Nottingham Forest or Blackpool.

After defeating non-league Eastleigh 3-1, League Two Newport secured the opportunity to host the Red Devils on January 28.

Thomas Frank, the manager of Brentford, received precisely what he did not want when his team had to play extra time to lose 3-2 to Wolves.

With the extra game cutting short each team’s two-week winter vacation, Frank questioned the need for replays.

Nathan Collins, a former Wolves defender, and Neal Maupay gave the Bees the lead twice.

However, Wolves responded by Nelson Semedo and teenage Nathan Fraser, and Matheus Cunha’s penalty won the match in extra time.

West Brom, a local rival, will now play Wolves in the round of 32.

Luton, who had been behind early on by Dion Charles’ goal, came back to defeat League One Bolton 2-1.

The Premier League team swiftly pulled even through Tahith Chong, and Chiedozie Ogbene sealed the victory.

Birmingham also overcame a deficit to defeat Hull 2-1, with Koji Miyoshi’s goal in the 94th minute securing victory. AFP
