Legendary in the golf world, Sam Torrance had a terrible experience when laughter followed his awkward encounter with the “most beautiful woman in the world.”

Throughout his career, Torrance had an incredible run that saw him rise to prominence on the European Tour from the middle of the 1970s and the late 1990s. Although he won 21 Tour titles, the Ryder Cup was where he really made his name.

As a player, he played for eight different countries, most notably winning in 1985 at The Belfry when he sank the winning putt on the eighteenth hole. For the first time in 28 years, Torrance maintained his composure to deny the Americans the coveted title.

Torrance captained the team to victory at The Belfry in 2002 after having been a member of the winning squads in 1987, 1989, and 1995. He became only the second player from Europe to make the winning putt and lead his team to victory after the victory 22 years ago.

But there was a notorious Torrance story from the 1980s Lancome event in France. Aside from his explosive second-round score of 62, which earned him a Rolex watch for shooting the lowest score of the week, Torrance had had a miserable week.

In an interview with aceodds.com, Torrance talked about how happy he was to hear that Isabella Rossellini, who was once rated the world’s most beautiful woman, would be giving him the expensive watch. However, the moment was marred by David Feherty, his travel companion. Torrance was thrilled to see Feherty when he walked up to him after a few drinks.

Sam Torrance played on eight straight European Ryder Cup teams, winning four of them.

“He’s got this big smile on his face and he brings a pint of water from behind his back and he throws it all over my crotch and I’m like, ‘What the f***?'” Torrance remembered. And when I looked up, he was gone. Like a fleeing rat in a sinking ship, giggling like a hyena with bloodlust.

And it’s absurd that I’m staring down at my pants. My crotch is completely wet. And the news came in less than thirty seconds: “And the low round of the week, Sam Torrance.” Sam, kindly approach and accept your prize from the stunning Isabella Rossellini.

The now-seventy-year-old was relieved to see Rossellini was tolerant about the situation after getting up and crossing over with a “sodden crotch.” He went on, “As soon as I arrived, I told the lovely woman what my best friend had just done to me, and she giggled a little.” I therefore sort of got away with it with her, but he wasn’t able to with me.

After almost 40 years, Torrance has failed to exact revenge on Feherty. He makes a lighthearted promise, nevertheless, saying, “I will come up with something before we pass,” even though he hasn’t yet exacted revenge.
