Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson disclosed that he has heard that Conor Gallagher, a reported target for the Spurs, will depart Stamford Bridge in January while talking about the future of Chelsea’s Malang Sarr.

Given that Gallagher has started all but one Premier League game for Mauricio Pochettino’s team this season (Transfermarkt) and has even held the armband in Reece James and Ben Chillwell’s absence, the rumors surrounding his future do seem a little strange.

The Daily Mail, among other sources, has reported that the Blues are prepared to cash in on the midfielder and use the money to acquire a striker. Spurs, meantime, are rumored to be prepared to make a move for the 23-year-old after their summer attempt to sign him failed (talkSPORT).

Last week, Pochettino indirectly hinted that the midfielder’s destiny is beyond his control, which was a major clue regarding the England international (The Independent).

A few days ago, Fabrizio Romano also revealed that Spurs were interested in Gallagher, saying that Ange Postecoglou was leading the North London team’s recruitment of the midfielder (Daily Briefing).

Robinson’s knowledge of Conor Gallagher

Now that Gallagher appears to have some inside information, Robinson has apparently said that he has heard the midfield player is leaving his boyhood club.

The former number one for Spurs responded to Football Insider when questioned about the rumors surrounding Malang Sarr’s future: “If you look at the loan moves he’s had at the lack of first-team opportunities, it’s time for him to go.”

“Yes, he arrived with high hopes, but it appears that the squad’s size is hurting him as the new manager is attempting to establish a different approach.

It’s probably time for him to move on and Chelsea will try to sell if you weren’t getting a look in before all of this happened and you’re still not playing now that there are all these players.

“Conor Gallagher, who has participated in the majority of the games this season, may be leaving and moving on. The writing is clearly on the wall for him if they are considering moving players along those lines.

It’s unclear whether Robinson is merely stating what he saw in the papers or whether he is sharing some insider knowledge about Gallagher.

In any case, it’s evident that Chelsea is willing to let go of the 23-year-old if their asking price is satisfied, and I don’t think Tottenham will want to pass up the chance to get the midfield player.
