This weekend, Nottingham Forest will play their final Premier League match of 2023 as they attempt to build on their first victory under Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Reds overcame a late deficit to defeat Newcastle United 3–1, making it an unforgettable Boxing Day victory. Chris Wood, a former Magpies striker, scored all three goals as the team recorded their first victory since early November.

Games are happening quickly during the holiday season, as usual, and Forest will be hoping to win another significant three points when they play Manchester United at the City Ground on Saturday night (5.30pm kickoff). On Boxing Day, the Red Devils pulled off their own comeback, defeating Aston Villa 3-2 after trailing 2-0 at one point.

For some of their games this season, Erik Ten Hag’s team has drawn a lot of criticism. They are currently seven points off of the top four in the Premier League standings, in seventh place.

The goal of both teams entering the game is to move up the table. Expert Paul Merson has expressed his prediction about the outcome.

“Who witnessed Nottingham Forest defeat Newcastle United the other day, earning three points? They had an absolutely amazing outcome, and they’ll be confident going up against a patchy Manchester United team, he told SportsKeeda.

I don’t think Forest will do well in this game because they are one of those teams that plays better away from home. I detest making predictions for Manchester United matches because you never know what to expect from them. After seeing them defeat Chelsea 2-1, I thought they had finally turned the corner. However, they lost to Bournemouth, Bayern Munich, and West Ham United after that, and they only managed to draw with Liverpool.

Erik ten Hag is facing a significant issue since they haven’t demonstrated sufficient consistency this season. A draw would be fantastic for Forest, and I think it’s possible.

Paul Merson’s forecast: Manchester United 1-0 Nottingham Forest
