According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur wants to sign three players during the January transfer window.

This month, Spurs have made quick progress, adding Timo Werner to their attacking lineup and acquiring Radu Dragusin to bolster their defense.

Tottenham reportedly wants to sign a new midfield player this month in order to help Ange Postecoglou continue to build on his strong play from the first half of 2023–2024.

Spurs are reportedly interested in Wolverhampton Wanderers star Joao Gomes and have indicated that they plan to make a deal for him “very soon,” according to Brazilian publication Fla Web.

The 22-year-old joined Wolves barely a year ago, moving from Flamengo to Molineux in a rumored £15 million deal.

According to the story, they have made it plain that they will not allow him to depart for a sum of money less than £30 million.

Gomes is a highly exciting, established talent in the Premier League with a bright future ahead of him if Tottenham are able to get him.

Gomes has already made 31 appearances in competitive play for Wolves, 29 of which have been in the Premier League.

The Rio de Janeiro native has also made one appearance in a senior Brazil matchday squad, starting on the bench against Morocco in a friendly last season.

Joao Gomes, a target for Tottenham, is “such a unique player.”

The term “tenacious” accurately describes Gomes’ playing style. Though he possesses several important qualities, his tackling and defense are particularly strong suits.

“Despite not having a big stature, Gomes manages to tackle the ball off his opponent largely without having to go to ground which is a phenomenal quality to possess because it often gives the ability to kickstart an attacking transition very quickly,” scouting outlet Breaking the Lines wrote last year.

In 2021, Jacek Kulig of Football Talent Scout compared him to Bruno Guimaraes and Gennaro Gattuso, while they also compared him to N’Golo Kante.

“Joao Gomes is such a unique player,” Kulig continued on X. “Amazing combination of box-to-box midfielder, deep-lying playmaker, and midfield destroyer.”

“Amazing work rate, persistence, and tireless running combined with excellent technique and playmaking abilities. On the field, he constantly gives it his all. Hero.

Gomes appears to be a terrific choice for Tottenham overall. We’ll see in the upcoming weeks what transpires.

The Wolves will have a solid negotiating position, but since they’re currently sitting pretty in the middle of the table, they might be inclined to cash in and double their investment at this point.
