Renan Lodi, a former left-back for Nottingham Forest and Atletico Madrid, is expected to sign a three-and-a-half-year contract with Saudi Pro League team Al Hilal.

The 25-year-old Brazilian played for Forest on loan from Atletico Madrid during the previous season, and he later signed a $11 million deal to play for Marseille in Ligue 1. However, Lodi is ready to be back on the move after just six months and 21 first-team appearances, with Marseille making a tiny profit in the process.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano claims that Lodi’s £17 million move to Al Hilal is nearing completion and that a three-and-a-half-year contract is prepared for signature.

In the summer of 2022, there was much speculation that the left-back would join Newcastle United, but they ultimately decided to sign Matt Targett on a permanent basis. After signing a loan deal with Forest for the 2022–23 season, Lodi made 32 appearances across all competitions with one goal.

Alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton, Lodi was a member of Kieran Trippier’s Atletico team before to Brazil. Al Hilal will be his fourth club in the previous twelve months.

Newcastle’s left-back situation remains problematic, as Dan Burn has played out of position for the most of the previous season and a half, more than 18 months after being linked to a transfer for Lodi. Since joining The Magpies permanently, Targett has not appeared in many games. He is now sidelined due to injury, however summer acquisition Tino Livramento has filled in at left back when Burn has not been available for selection.

Due to a shortage of funding, Newcastle is unlikely to bolster their position during the January transfer window as they attempt to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations.
