Several new right-backs have been linked to Leeds United before the transfer market closes.

Luke Ayling and Djed Spence were both unexpectedly lost by the Whites earlier this month, and they need a replacement to ensure they are not shorthanded for the duration of the season.

In their attempt to bolster, Leeds is mostly looking to the Premier League loan market; Connor Roberts, Calvin Ramsay, Ben Johnson, and Neco Williams are rumored targets.

Since all of those players are, at most, second-choice at their current clubs, Leeds is looking into the prospect of temporarily moving them to Elland Road.

Though a deal is extremely doubtful, Phil Hay says there is one person on that list they truly want to sign in an interview with the most recent episode of the Square Ball Podcast. Well, that man is Neco Williams.

Williams, the desired right-back for Leeds

“They would really like Neco Williams as a right-back, but I think we can assume that is not going to happen,” he stated.

Williams will be difficult for Leeds to get out of the City Ground this month because new manager Nuno Espirito Santo sees him as an integral element of his goals.

Williams has started in each of Forest’s first five games under Nuno; their preferred trade target in the coming weeks is fellow right-back Serge Aurier.

For Leeds, the situation might have been different if Steve Cooper had been in command. Even in November, when he had fallen in the hierarchy, Forest had been eager to give him a hand.

Williams believes that Leeds is currently losing the war, but Leeds is not afraid to take its time in order to land their top targets.
